Physics Teacher (High School / AP & IB Level)

Job Overview

AIST - American International School of Tashkent is seeking an analytically minded, innovative, and enthusiastic Physics Teacher to join our secondary school science faculty. The ideal candidate will bridge abstract mathematical formulas with real-world physical phenomena, inspiring students to explore mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and modern physics. You will be responsible for running an inquiry-based, lab-heavy physics program (aligned with Next Generation Science Standards - NGSS, AP, or IB frameworks) that prioritizes critical thinking, mathematical modeling, and precise data analysis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Advanced Pedagogy & Laboratory Instruction

• Mathematical Modeling: Teach students how to translate physical scenarios into mathematical models, developing strong problem-solving competencies in algebra-based and calculus-based physics.
• Hands-On Lab Investigation: Design and lead rigorous laboratory experiments that teach precise measurements, uncertainty calculations, error analysis, and the use of digital sensors/datalogging equipment.
• Rigorous Exam Preparation: Deliver high-level instruction to prepare upper-secondary students for external college-preparatory examinations (such as AP Physics or IB DP Physics).
• Differentiated Scaffolding: Scaffold abstract concepts (like quantum theory or rotational dynamics) using interactive simulations (e.g., PhET) to support language learners without compromising academic rigor.

2. Lab Safety & Data Management

• Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe, highly organized physics laboratory, ensuring proper handling of electrical equipment, optics, lasers, and projectile devices.
• Analytical Assessment: Evaluate student performance through formal technical lab reports, concept-mapping, problem-solving sets, and structured examinations.
• Technology Integration: Seamlessly integrate physical tools (photogates, force sensors, oscilloscopes) with software to allow real-time analysis of physical data.

3. Collaborative & Extracurricular Contribution

• STEM & Math Alignment: Partner closely with the mathematics department to align algebraic and calculus concepts, and with the IT/Design department for coding or engineering connections.
• Co-Curricular Leadership: Actively participate in campus life by mentoring student engineering clubs, Robotics teams, Rocketry challenges, or coaching for international physics tournaments.
• Global Perspectives: Connect physics concepts to modern global challenges, such as renewable energy grids, aerospace engineering advancements, and environmental mechanics.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or Physics Education. A Master’s degree and a valid secondary teaching license or professional credential are highly preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of successful experience teaching Physics at the upper-secondary level (Grades 9–12), specifically within an American, AP, or IB framework.
• Skills:
  • Near-native or native English language proficiency (written and spoken) to fluidly articulate complex physical and mathematical laws.
  • Deep mastery over laboratory instrumentation, data-logging tools, and graphing software.
  • Proven experience with student-centered learning methodologies (e.g., Project-Based Learning, modeling instruction).
